Benefits of Soy

A Protective Diet includes and suggests the inclusion of minimally processed soy ingredients. This includes and is limited to unsweetened plain soymilk, refrigerated water packed tofu, tempeh and Edamame. These ingredients are recommended for their phyto-chemical benefits and protection in the body. Epidemiological studies have found that soy protein may reduce the risk for cancers including breast, colon, and prostate. Avoid all processed soy products and soy protein isolate. These extracted proteins are not a whole food and some evidence suggests it can promote cancer cells.

The inclusion of soy doesn’t have adverse effects on the thyroid gland, but it may reduce the absorption of thyroid medication. Always avoid consuming soy at the same time as your thyroid medication.
