  1. Not only is this bread delicious at home, but it travels well, too! I made & froze a sliced loaf the night before I traveled to Europe. Packed it up in parchment paper then put in a freezer ziplock bag and placed it in my carryon. It’s a nice, safe treat to have when I’m missing the comforts of home. Thanks Julie!

  2. One of our favorites. I have a lonnnnng loaf pan and I can bake a triple batch in one pan. Getting 12 bananas to ripen without anyone eating them in the meantime is the most difficult thing. We have a few slices of it warm and then I freeze the rest, makes a great breakfast or snack.

  3. LOVE! I was too lazy to get out my grinder to make ww flour and I am glad because making the oat flour was so easy. Also the texture was light and the flavor was decadent. I love banana bread but hubby is not a fan so next time I am going to try adding the cocoa powder. Also, I am like Jerry and usually eat oat groats for breakfast, I never get tired of it, haha.

  4. This banana bread got me through detox and taste bud reprogramming. I made sure I had this on the menu every day. Moist and delicious. thank you Julie for making what I thought would be so hard very enjoyable and doable!

  5. I really like the banana bread. Sometimes I make these into muffins. Other times I add some frozen blueberries into the mix. I also make the chocolate version from comments above. Great recipe!

  6. Just made this and it smelled so good baking. I used the oat flour and followed the recipe exactly except that I made mini muffins and baked them for 15 min. which is just the time I guessed. I will see if it takes any less. It made 27 mini muffins. I think the nutmeg really kicks up the flavor factor.

  7. I have made this banana bread many times but have never left a review. Today I used oat flour for the first time. I also made them into muffins instead of a loaf . I added a few TB of applesauce that I needed to use up. Super delicious and moist! Love them!!

  8. We made this banana bread as muffins. They are so, so good. I froze some and ate some. I just cannot believe how good it is for you but that is the Protective Diet.

  9. I just have to add that I make this bread all the time! I always have it in my freezer just in case I want a piece of warm bread! I have made it several times for friends at work that love it to.

  10. My husband and I really like this. I have made it maybe 5 times since starting PD on the 6th! I make it after dinner and by the time it bakes and cools for a bit we are ready for a nice little treat. I always eat the ends – mmmmm. Last night I added ½ cup of applesauce and it was nice and moist. I think I will continue this practice. Thanks Julie!

  11. This has become a staple in my home. Simple and tasty. I have added pineapple and I have switched out some flour with cacao – both as recommended above. I swear it tastes like a brownie when the cacao is used.

  12. my 3rd banana bread with cup of cacao powder (i added less flour) and no nutmeg. outstanding. I really didn’t think banana bread could get any better but adding cacao powder makes this officially the best thing I have ever made.

  13. this is my favorite of all the bread/muffins recipes. It’s so easy. I like making them into muffins and then freezing them. the last time I made them, I had crushed pineapple I needed to use up and threw it in too, was very good! I use the oat flour because it also makes a great, healthy dog treat!

  14. I used to absolutely HATE baking….until I found PD. That is no lie or exaggeration. The muffins/breads are so incredibly simple, easy and FAST…I can’t believe it! The banana bread is by far my favorite! It’s better than any SAD banana bread I’ve ever had!

  15. I prepared the bread recipe this afternoon using all oat flour. However, I was short two bananas so I added ½ cup of unsweetened applesauce to the mix. Also, because I live at a high altitude sometimes I need to adjust either liquid or dry ingredients but the mixture had a good consistency so I didn’t make any additional adjustments and popped it in the oven and baked it for 35 minutes. Perfect! Definitely a keeper. 🙂

  16. I made this tonight and it made the house smell so good! I ended up using 1 cup oat flour and 1 cup whole wheat flour I think next time I will use all oat flour, it seemed a little dry to me. It must’ve been good because my husband didn’t make a comment about it needing butter!
I agree with Jennifer about the simplicity of mixing everything in one bowl.

  17. Thanks for responding Julie, with all my other cooking I did yesterday (I still have a few more reviews to post) I didn’t get around to making this but I got my liquid Stevia and will be making this when I get home.
I love how satisfying all of your recipes are and I can’t wait to continue trying more but my husband wants me to wait since we have a full fridge right now! 🙂

  18. Hello, I’m not sure how I found your site but I’m thrilled I did. I hope this isn’t a stupid question but I only have powdered Stevia can I use that instead of the liquid? I will get some liquid Stevia next time I’m out but I wanted to make this today. 🙂

    1. Hi Penny,
I’m glad you found it too. Thank you for posting all the great reviews! Please keep them coming as you cook your way through my recipes. You may use the powdered stevia, but I’m not sure about the conversion amount. When you do buy liquid stevia choose one that only contains stevia and alcohol. Avoid the ones with food additives or natural flavor. Powdered stevia usually contains food additives.
      Best of Health,
      Julie Marie

  19. Love this bread!!! So delicious!! Anyone ever try adding in other fruit..like berries? My daughter has made this into muffins and will add a couple of good quality vegan dark chocolate chips.

  20. Great healthy banana bread! I made a loaf and had some for a snack and some for dessert. I didn’t feel guilty because I watched the PD-ED episode where Julie talk about eating half a loaf for breakfast, that would only be ~500 calories and basically the nutritional equivalent of eating bananas and oatmeal. I am just HELPING my endothelium by eating half a loaf of this 🙂 This would also be great to send with my fiance for his breakfast on the go. This one is a winner!

2 more things I LOVE about this recipe:

    1. It is a ‘one-pot’ meal. You mix everything in one bowl and dump it into a parchment lined pan. i.e. Very little clean up! I am kind of OCD about trying to dirty as few things as possible when I cook, so this made me happy to only dirty one bowl.
    2. The prep is SO FAST. I even defrosted bananas and ground my own oat flour and everything was literally ready by the time the oven came to temperature. You can think ‘I want some of that fabulous banana bread’ and then, bam!, have it in the oven in the time it takes to heat up the oven.

  21. I had to come up with a recipe using oats, because I know they are a great promoter of our immune system and a wonderful way to break our fast with (Break-Fast). As many of you know I’m not a fan of boring oatmeal, but I’m a big fan of banana bread. Well here you have it…I get my oats in and actually enjoy them! I call it health bread because if made with oat flour it is the nutritional equivalent of oatmeal and bananas.

  22. Amazing, just amazing! This bread is so moist and flavorful. I made it with GF oat flour, so it’s gluten-free, too. I love the idea of freezing slices of it to have on hand. Thanks for another delicious recipe!

  23. Is oat flour better for you then whole wheat flour because its less processed you think? Just wanting to know your thoughts Julie? In this recipe did you use the oat or whole wheat? Thanks!

    1. Oat flour and wheat flour is processed the same by grinding the oat or wheat into flour. Oats are known to promote our endothelial function and be high in fiber. I use the oat flour because I like the texture better. It also is a great replacement for oats in the morning. I came up with this recipe because I’m not a big fan of boring oatmeal.
