  1. This is one of my favorite recipes (there are so many!). Tonight is the first time I air fried these hot dogs. I left the wire rack in and preheated the air frier for 15 minutes at 450°. Placed the hot dogs in and turned the heat down to 400 for about 8-9 minutes, I flipped them once after about 5-6 minutes to get the grill marks. This worked out great!

  2. This recipe is a favorite of mine. I love my hot doggity dog covered in mustard, pickle or relish, and white onions. If I had them – I would also add hot peppers and tomato but I don’t. Tomorrow I will make rolls of some sort… I like the hot diggity dog rolls but I have some sourdough starter… we will see what I get to. Who else has made these lately?

  3. I just ate my first PD Hot Diggity Dog Chicago style and man oh man!!! It was worth posting a review. Now I did read the prior comments about the hot dog being mushy, I will say I took those comments to heart before I made my first batch and if it helps any of you, I didn’t get the texture in the video in 5 minutes and I have a 2 year old gas stove. I actually got it in 9 minutes but my goal was to get it to texture and it definitely paid off. The texture is pretty firm but not as firm as your store bought vegan hot dogs which I was OK with! The flavor was better than any hot dog I have had and I ate 2 of these things guilt free! As I am typing this, my kids are eating theirs with Killer Ketchup, not realizing that this is far from junk food! Way to go Julie Marie for this home run recipe!!!

  4. First review…disappointed. Not because of the recipe or taste, but the outcome was not “hot diggity.” I am attempting to pinpoint the problem and the only thing I can come up with was it was not ground enough into a flour. I followed the directions as Julie has them written, mixed all the ingredients and then attempted to thicken in on the stove.

    I watched and re-watched the video but my mixture never thickened like her’s did on the video. While I knew from that point on I was going to be challenged to get a batter I could work with, I continued to stir over medium heat until I finally gave up.

    I did roll out 7 dogs and placed in the refrigerator. As expected, they never set up after nearly 12 hours. I did put them in the oven to cook them, but were not close to a thumbs up result. Again, I point back to the flour, it appeared to be ground fine enough, but it must not have been. I will try this again, as I thought the flavor was good. Thanks Julie!

  5. Ok, so I made the hot diggity dogs and here are the results:
    Hubby: Loved them, ate 2.

    11 yr. old son: Thought they tasted good, but didn’t like how they were mushy in the middle. I did make them a little fat, so will thin them out more next time and maybe cook a little longer.

    6 yr. old daughter: Said she didn’t like them, but just asked me to make another one for her.

    Ultra Picky Eater son, age 9: LOVED them!! He ate 2 (including the one my daughter didn’t want) and just asked for another. Like, what???? He’s like Mikey (remember the Life commercial?), how can he like them??? Lol.

    I haven’t eaten mine yet because I had a really big lunch and then banana ice cream before making them, so wasn’t hungry. Of course, now they’re gone, so I’ll have to eat one next time I make them.

    I will add that my 9 yr. old picky eater asked for more hot dogs, the next day. I’d better get some in the fridge! 🙂

    1. I would watch the video and follow the exact cooking time suggested in the recipe. I have not experienced a pasty texture. The use of a high-speed blender (Blendtec or Vitamix) and the first step of blending into flour is important.

  6. Question.. Since you mentioned a wet blender pitcher won’t work well, did you not pre rinse the dry ingredient? I usually rinse them before cooking but in this case, not sure if I should…
