Italian “Sausage” Premium PD Recipe


Sweet or hot is all you needed to know when ordering sausage at an Italian market in Chicago. Served layered in a bun with Red Sauce, grilled onions, and topped with your choice of sweet or hot peppers. Growing up, my mother’s red sauce would simmer all day on the lowest flame while she was out tending to the garden. It frequently included a couple of seared Italian sausages to add flavor. Chicago pizza wasn’t complete without Italian Sausage. Thankfully we have a fantastic fat free, whole-food, gluten-free, plant-based Protective Diet version. The PD community is enjoying recipe classics and comfort food favorites while slimming down, reversing disease, maintaining optimal health and offering protection to humans, animals and our planet.

    This was an outstanding addition to PD minestrone soup. I also tried it in a breakfast hash instead of the chorizo and substituting zucchini for the jalapeño. Amazing! And do fun to create. Thank you!
