Oil is not needed with so much flavor and natural creaminess in these custom made “re-fried style” beans. These were the key to weight loss for a student who was accustomed to eating a traditional Mexican diet going through my four-week detox workshop.

I have been craving refried beans the last month or so. This recipe crossed my path at just the right time. So simple. Fast! Delicious! Will be a staple from now on in my fridge. The creaminess makes it feel very indulgent in my mouth. Thanks, Julie!
can someone please tell me about the directions?? what is step 2 about? you’re mixing the beans, after blended with spices, to the water in the pan? it’s probably so simple but that confused me 🙂
Thanks SuzyQ! I updated the directions to clarify.
Suzyq, yes that’s what it means. If you are using a non-stick pan, you may not need the water, it is just to keep the beans at a nice consistancy and to keep them from sticking.
So delicious! I love using them on the Mexican Pizza!
I just made these for the very first time! OMG !!! Sooo delicious !!! I will be making these on a weekly basis! Yum!! Thanks Julie!!!
Unfried Black Beans Recipe ~ wonderful…. just delicious!! thank you
When I click on dried chopped onion it brings me to this page: https://protectivediet.com/i-love-a-good-chopped-salad-i-dressed-this-one-with-pd-french-onion-dip.html instead of what dried chopped onion actually is.
I make these every week. I rotate between black beans and pinto beans. I think I like the pinto better actually. I use these on tortilla chips or as a spread on a tortilla for a burrito. Good stuff and my S.A.D. eating husband likes these too!
I just made these again. I now use double the amount of black beans, and the Vitamix can then handle it. It’s so much smoother in the Vitamix than in the food processor, so I’m glad that I found a way to make it work!
Forgot to add that I don’t use canned beans, I cook dry beans in my pressure cooker, no need for soaking, they turn out great every time.
Great bean dip recipe. I have been serving these with PD tortilla chips and salsa molcajete. I have made this recipe with black beans and with pinto beans, whichever I have on hand. Great snack!
These were so good! I couldn’t get my Vitamix to handle it, no matter what I tried, so I switched to the food processor. They probably weren’t quite as creamy, but the flavor was great!
