Action Steps to Reduce Your Toxic Load with the “30-Day Detox and Taste Bud Reprogram

  • Understand Why It Matters
  • The liver metabolizes toxins from food additives, fragrances, cleansers, topicals, medications, alcohol, pollutants, and more. It works to convert and neutralize substances so they are easier for the body to eliminate.
  • Excessive or chronic exposure to toxins can overwhelm the liver’s detoxification capacity, keeping it from functioning optimally and sometimes leading to liver damage or liver diseases such as fatty liver disease, cirrhosis, and liver cancer.
  • A healthy liver detoxifies chemicals, and supports digestion, metabolism, autophagy, and immune function. If liver counts are high on blood tests we likely have a metabolic disorder and a high toxic load. We will not be able to eat our fill and metabolize it smoothly.
  • Eliminate Toxins from Your Diet
  • Eat a 100% Protective Diet. This will eliminate toxic chemical food additives and prioritize foods rich in antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals, such as leafy greens, cruciferous vegetables, fruits and whole grains that support liver health.
  • Choose organics over conventionally grown fruits, vegetables, and grains whenever possible. Buy in bulk at reduced cost.
  • Start in the pantry with organic spices, teas, grains, and other pantry staples because these items are heavily sprayed with glyphosate (Roundup). Glyphosate kills healthy gut microbes, reducing the microbiome population and diversity to a mono-microbiome, which has been linked to neurological disorders such as autism, Alzheimer’s, and Parkinson’s.
  • Eliminate bottled water. BPA is a known endocrine disruptor correlated with thyroid disorder. Filter water at home and store in repurposed glass bottles for on-the-go needs. Drink Protective Beverages, like Better Than Kombucha, in repurposed tamari or vinegar bottles. Eliminate alcohol and stay hydrated to flush toxins and protect the microbiome.
  • When we clean up the diet, the thyroid comes down to the point that doctors take you off meds. But they continue testing, and if the diet goes off a little bit, they put you back on thyroid meds, the weight comes back, and all the symptoms of toxic load start to shine again. You go through cravings and detox again. To eliminate this struggle, we do environmental home detox. When you are exposed to fragrances and chemicals, your liver is working overtime. You might not see it or feel it because you are used to it, but you are in a chronic detox state.
  • Optimize Your Home Environment
  • Replace chemical cleansers, detergents, fabric softeners, and fragrances with Protective Diet’s toxic-free lifestyle alternatives. Conventional household cleaning products are toxic. They are in the air, on our surfaces and clothing, and leave a residue on every dish. By making our own cleaning supplies, like All-Purpose Cleaning Spray, Natural Laundry Detergent, and Dishwasher Detergent, we reduce our exposure to toxins and improve our metabolism. Vinegar-based cleaners contain acid that is beneficial to healthy gut microbes. These products are natural, inexpensive, effective and safe.
  • Eliminate fragrances. Fragrances are a chemical that can be made up of just about anything and everything. Companies do not have to disclose what’s in a fragrance. If it says fragrance on the label, do not buy it. Do not apply it. Do not consume it. Our skin is our largest organ. Anything we put on our skin absorbs into our system and our liver has to filter it. And if our liver is busy filtering toxins, it can’t perform autophagy, which is cellular recycling. When your body is scanning for things that need to go, such as dead and damaged proteins in our brain that are inhibiting thought connection, we want our liver free to do this for us. We want our liver free to filter other things that we can’t control, like cleaning chemicals used at the office, or the chemical fragrance mist in public restrooms. We can’t avoid these things.
  • Give your body a break at home. Home should be your place of reprieve. You can breathe easy at home where there is no heaviness of fragrances and toxins, scented candles, fragrance plugins, or cosmetics with fragrances added. Make sure that at home your body is free to metabolize and burn body fat.
  • Elevate Your Skincare and Sleep Routine
  • Quality sleep is essential. If you are experiencing hormonal fluctuations that disrupt your sleep, be sure you are eating a 100% Protective Diet and incorporating Jerry’s Plant-based Organic Yogurt.
  • Fabrics: Have one clean cotton nightgown (or night shirt) for every day of the week. Wash bed linens weekly.
  • Consider making organic, cold-pressed, hexane-free castor oil part of your nourishing routine. It is naturally antibacterial, and contains fatty acids that are known for healing. Castor Oil is extracted from castor beans. Castor beans contain a toxin called ricin that is water soluble. When cold pressed, the toxin is left in the bean shell and never enters the extracted oil. Oils absorb BPA from plastic containers, so be sure it is stored in glass. Look for organic, expeller/cold pressed (hexane-free) castor oil. Buy in bulk and transfer a small amount to a glass bottle for daily use. Store the rest in the refrigerator to prevent it from going rancid. Throw it out if it smells bad–a strong smell indicates rancidity.

Evening Care Morning Care
Cleanse and Exfoliate: Wet a Japanese scrub towel. Put a few drops of concentrated castile soap, like Dr. Bronner’s, on it. Lather it up and scrub the whole body to cleanse, exfoliate, polish and rejuvenate the skin. It’s important to get rid of bacteria before applying any products. Rinse the towel and hang to dry.    Deodorize and Moisturize: Put 1 Tablespoon of Castor Oil in the palm of your hand. Add 3-5 drops of your favorite essential oil (lavender or sandalwood). Apply to one arm pit and work it in. Repeat for the other arm pit. Rub excess into arms, shoulders, neck, and hands.    Relax and Enhance: Lay in bed. From your nightstand–Apply Castor Oil and 1 drop of frankincense essential oil to your face, eyebrows and eyelashes to lengthen.Using a guasha tool, scrape the skin to release facial tension, promote circulation and reduce lines by breaking down muscular tissue that builds up when you scrunch your face. Apply organic shea butter to your feet.   Rinse and Reset: Wash your guasha tool to remove oil and dust. Place it back on your nightstand. Notice that your skin feels supple, looks good, and feels hydrated. Go to the kitchen with a fresh face.    Reduce Puffiness and Inflammation: Use a vegetable peeler to slice a few pieces of chilled organic cucumber. Cut the slices in half. Place slices under your eyes and the rest of your face if you want. Your “Salad Face” will feel fantastic! Leave on while you do your morning chores or until they dry out and peel off like a mask. Make Tuber Tonic as an anti-inflammatory morning beverage to take the chill off. For convenience, brew this at night and chill in the fridge. In the morning, reheat and froth in a Breville Milk Café and serve in a double-sided mug.   Care for Working Hands Use tools like a scrub brush to save your manicure.Wash dishes with diluted castile soap.Moisturize hands anytime throughout the day with organic shea butter or organic coconut oil. Buy in bulk, store in a cool place, and put some in small containers around the house for convenience.
